Walks and Talks...and Boats, Oh My!

A plethora of events are taking place in and around Manhattan in the next seven days.

Saturday, June 9 at 11am
The High Line and Its Environs
A Walking tour by yours truly: Trek the High Line from its Meatpacking District start to its current end at 30th Street, taking in the park and the surrounding buildings. Step off the High Line to get a closer look at select buildings. Meet at southern entrance to High Line. More information and ticket availability at 92Y Tribeca.

Sunday, June 10 at 2pm
Around Manhattan Official NYC Architectural Boat Tour: Featured Guide Series - Meta Brunzema
Featured Guide Meta Brunzema (Architect + Urban Designer, Meta Brunzema Architects PC, Professor Pratt University and Founding Director Friends of Hudson River Park) will discuss post Westway community based waterfront planning as well as a number of her innovative projects. River Pool will provide new opportunities for people to safely swim in bio-filtered river water and experience the flow of currents and tides. The boat departs from Chelsea Piers. Tickets available via Classic Harbor Line.

Oculus Book Talk: Diana Balmori and Joel Sanders, Groundwork
Diana Balmori, FASLA and Joel Sanders, AIA will present their book Groundwork: Between Landscape and Architecture at the Center for Architecture.

Fine Arts Federation of New York Annual Meeting: Creative Placemaking with Carol Coletta
This presentation and discussion led by Carol Coletta (head of ArtPlace, a new national initiative to accelerate creative placemaking across the U.S.) takes place at the Van Alen Institute. "In creative placemaking, partners from public, private, non-profit, and community sectors strategically shape the physical and social character of a neighborhood, town, city, or region around arts and cultural activities. Creative placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired." - NEA white paper for the Mayor’s Institute on City Design

New Practices New York 2012 Opening
The New Practices New York 2012 competition winners are: ABRRUZO BODZIAK ARCHITECTSChristian WassmanformlessfinderHOLLER architecture; The Living; Mark Fornes & THEVERYMANY; and SLO Architecture.The New Practices New York 2012 Exhibition is on view at the Center for Architecture from June 14 - September 8, 2012.
