Twenty-three finalists have been chosen for Build a Better Burb, an ideas competition from the Long Island Index that asked "architects, urban designers, planners, students, visionaries and everyone else interested in shaping our suburbs’ future to [... submit] bold design proposals for retrofitting underutilized asphalt in suburban downtowns into innovative and surprising new uses, forms and urbanisms." Part of the competition involves a People's Choice Award, so head to the gallery and vote for your favorite. Here's a sneak peek at the 23 finalists:
